About WWU on the Peninsulas

Bringing WWU to the Central Salish Sea Region

Western Washington University's presence on the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas is a network of academic locations designed to support degree attainment and regional growth. WWU's academic centers in Bremerton, Port Angeles, and Bremerton are expanding to better serve students from the local communities and to meet Washington State’s goal to ensure that at least 70 percent of Washington adults will have a postsecondary credential.

Despite being a dynamic and rapidly growing area, the Peninsulas region is behind in higher educational attainment compared to the rest of Washington. A 2019 assessment noted insufficient access to four-year and master's-level degree programs in the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas and noted the importance of creating pathways to credentials to address the region's educational gaps.

Since 1993, WWU has offered bachelor’s degree programs in the Olympic Peninsula region. With its commitment to educational excellence, Western Washington University is well-positioned to play a  role in bridging the education gaps. By expanding our presence through tailored programs, WWU is providing the necessary educational opportunities for both working-age adults seeking career advancement and young individuals aiming to secure a brighter future.

Western Washington University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, one of seven regional accrediting bodies recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
