Sociology at WWU on the Peninsulas

Sociology for Professionals, BA
Sociologists examine topics encompassing a vast array of human behavior: crime and punishment, the formation and dissolution of families, bureaucracy in organizations, conflicts between classes, and global inequalities. Sociology for Professionals is distinctive in its focus on assisting people already in helping professions to advance their career with a degree. These contexts include tailored explorations of areas such as generation, occupation, gender, religion, sexual orientation, family, health, nation, race and ethnicity, and many others.

What can I do with a degree in Sociology?
Sociology students develop an aptitude for critical thinking, improve their writing ability, and gain competence with statistical computing that will enhance their future career options. Many Sociology graduates enter professions such as social work, law, education, and criminal justice work. Others pursue graduate training in Sociology, Social Work, or other related disciplines.

Admission Requirements
Students interested in entering the Western on the Peninsulas Sociology BA will generally need to meet the following requirements for admission into the program:
- Completion of an Associate of Arts - Direct Transfer Agreement from a Washington State Community College, or the equivalent of 90 transferrable quarter credits to achieve Junior-level status upon admission
- Ability to complete any outstanding General University Requirements with coursework offered from WWU
- Achieved a cumulative transfer GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Confirmed admission to Western Washington University. Students from Olympic College or Peninsula College may qualify for Guaranteed Transfer Admission
- Completed transfer application submitted. This application is completed at the same time as the WWU application for admission, even if Guaranteed Transfer Admission applies
Students may apply for admission to the Sociology for Professionals, BA for Fall, Winter or Spring Quarter entry.
